The Enhanced Access to Public Records Act (P.A. 462 of 1996) permits a county to charge a 'convenience fee' to reimburse for the cost of providing enhanced digital access to public records. The revenue from the convenience fee is used to offset the costs of processing online credit card payments and to provide some reimbursement for the infrastructure, development and ongoing operational costs of providing enhanced access to the public through the County's Online Services Website.
